From June 2016 till June 2020 I worked your typical 9 to 5 job. To be honest during that season of my life I did not have much of a morning rountine. My alarm would go off at 6am and I would snooze it till 6:30am and then finally roll out of bed to shower. I would get dressend and quickly do my hair and makeup before rushing to the kitchen for some breakfast and coffee. I would be in my car by 8am and at work by 8:15am.
Working out was never part of my morning rountine until September of 2019. Once the pandemic hit working out was no longer apart of my rountine until the month before my wedding.
After having a solid morning rountine for the last 6 months I can honestly see what a difference it makes for the rest of my day. It sets me up to be productive and I am a lot happier.
Right after we got married I did not have much of a morning rountine. I was now my own boss and found myself sleeping in and working in the afternoons. When we moved to Maryland and finally settled down, I decided I need some type of rountine.
I am no expert when it comes to creating a morning rountine. I just simply sat down and wrote down the things that I enjoyed and thought would help set the rest of my day up for success.
I wake up between 6am-7am Monday-Friday. My goal is to be down in our garage gym between 7-7:15am. I usually set my workout clothes out the night before so thats one less thing I have to think about.
I take the next hour for myself to workout. My workout rountine changes daily and that will be another post for another time. The day that I am writing this post I decided to do a 30 minute spin workout followed by 10 minutes of stretching.
I recently got a spin bike and the Peloton app (to take classes). Shoutout to my friend, Marie, for introducing me to spining. It such a great workout and makes me feel prepared to tackle the day. On this particular day I did a quick 30 minute ride! It was so good! Afterwards I stretched for 10 minutes.
Next I head back into the house and go upstairs to get ready for the day. For awhile I would just hang out after working out. I would slowly eat my breakfast and drink my coffee and then it would be 10AM. I was not being productive and just felt crappy. So now I go upstairs and take a shower and get dressed.
For the most part I dress like I am actually going to an office. I put on jeans and a nice top. I do my hair and sometimes do makeup. I make the bed and then head back downstairs for breakfast.
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. If I could eat it all day I totally would. For the most part I eat the same thing everyday but recently I discovered that you can make bacon in your air fryer in less then 10 minutes so that has been a game changer. However, I typically have avocado toast with eggs. I usually change what type of bread I use and sometimes I don’t have eggs. I totally recommend adding Everything but the Bagel seasoning and feta cheese to your avocado toast (its AMAZING!).
After I eat my breakfast I usually Facetime my mom, sister and nephew. I miss them so much so I love being able to connect with them. I usually talk to them for about 30 minutes to 1 hour. After I am done talking with them I clean the kitchen and then go do the most important part of my morning rountine.
I grab a cup of coffee, my devotional, and gratitude journal. My prayer life has always been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride but is something I am constantly working to improve. I have found by adding this to my morning I feel a lot calmer and at peace. I am able to sit in the silence, sip my coffee, and think about the day ahead. I then spend 10 minutes writing in my gratitude journal. This something I started doing last year when the pandemic hit and it has made a difference in how I approach each day. Being able to write down how I am feeling helps motivate me for the rest of the day!
After that it is time to get to work!
This week I want to challenge you to do something to change up your morning rountine. It can be waking up earlier or spending a couple of minutes in the silence enjoying your coffee. If you do let me know!
Have a great weekend friends!
